The “PARÁBOLAS VISUAIS” exhibition presents a logic-sense-reflective discourse through the contemporary geometric abstractions of artist Luiz Antonio Caligiuri (CALLI). The curatorial narrative proposes a dialogue that is allusive to the formal manifestations and their surprising, infinite derivations, constructed from these interrelations. Geometric shapes are abstracted from their physical sense, giving rise to poetic shapes that interact with our senses, triggering visions and sensations.

CALLI’s geometry brings forth a pictorial quantum leap of constructivism’s structuralist view. The juxtaposition of chromatic shapes without the end result being incomprehensible is the instrument used to organize the symbolic flight of thought, simultaneously ordered and asymmetrical, which constructs singular images. Visual parables and symbolic configurations of the observing knowledge of the eye arise amidst the geometric abstraction.

The formal influences present along the entire process of this body of work make reference to great names in the history of art, such as Kandinsky, regarding shapes and symbols, Miró, for his compositions of colors, and Dalí, for his interpretations of the unconscious. These reference points guide the conceptual approach of this artistic expression as an instrument of exposing the unconscious, full of symbols and meanings within its human poetry, as the purpose of the result of the most recent artistic production displayed in this exhibition.

The pieces, filled with richness of detail, feature inviting metaphors and instigate the audience to dive into their subtleties, impregnated with elements, geometric shapes and scenarios that bring forth re-signified visual messages as a plastic, metaphysical path for interpretation of human formal poetry in this sacred Caligiurian geometry.

ENCONTROS E DESENCONTROS (MEETINGS AND SEPARATIONS)

In this collection of geometric works of acrylic paint on canvas, the central point is human desire. It is what moves us in our day to day lives, which makes us carry on in the search of the realization of the meeting, despite experienced separations. In a landscape of geometric shapes, in which each one represents an element of existence (parallel lines seem to form roads, converging lines speak of fate, breasts with spears instead of nipples signify frustration, red shelters protect us while floating triangular shapes are the interference we face with each step we take).

A specific shape represents the active desire while another represents passive desire.

These are formed by a circle (the ego) with a phallic shape – active desire – which seeks another with an open shape – passive desire. It is necessary to read the images as being dynamic, even if, in the painting, they appear static. The idea is that these shapes are constantly moving along the timeline and modifying the figures in such a way as to always allow for the fulfillment of the entirety of desires. The paintings in the frames record a moment like an instantaneous photograph in a dynamic universe.
